Fancy Text Generator

Instagram Fonts

Copy a styled name or bio line that shows up properly on Instagram, then preview it in a profile before you paste.

Tap any style to copy it. Accented letters (รฉ, รฑ, รผ) and numbers work too.

Heads-up: screen readers may skip these letters or read them one by one, and search engines may not match them. Keep important words, like your name or contact info, in plain text too.

Preview your Instagram bio before you paste it

Pick a style for your name and one for your bio, see them laid out like a profile, and check the 150-character limit. Your @username stays plain because Instagram only allows letters, numbers, periods and underscores there.

What are Instagram fonts?

Instagram fonts are styled letters you copy from a generator and paste into your profile, captions or comments. Instagram itself shows every bio in the same plain typeface, but the Unicode standard contains whole alphabets that look bold, italic, handwritten or gothic. Because each styled letter is a separate character rather than formatting, Instagram stores it like any other text, and your followers see the same shapes on their phones. The list above converts what you type into the styles that hold up best on Instagram, and the preview shows how they sit in a profile before you commit.

How to change the font in your Instagram bio

  1. Type your name or a line of your bio into the box at the top of this page.
  2. Tap the style you want. It is copied right away.
  3. In Instagram, open your profile, tap Edit profile, then Bio (or Name), and paste.
  4. Save, then look at your profile once more. If a line looks cut short, it went over the character limit.

Captions and comments work the same way: paste the copied text while writing the post or the reply. If you want the cursive look in particular, with underlines and decorations, the cursive font generator has more variations of it.

Why this list is shorter than other Instagram font generators

Many generators show every Unicode trick they know. This page keeps the styles built from the most established parts of Unicode: the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols (cursive, bold, italic, gothic, outline, sans and typewriter), which the math fonts on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac include; the circled letters, in the standard since Unicode 1.1 in 1993; the heart symbol; and a strikethrough line drawn over ordinary letters. For the circled letters and the strikethrough we have so far confirmed display only on a Mac, and the device table below says so. We left out styles that rely on fonts for other writing systems, such as the ๊งwings๊ง‚ made from Javanese and Tibetan punctuation; square letters like ๐Ÿ…ฐ that some phones turn into color emoji; and stacked glitch text, which can spill over the lines around it. Those styles are still on the main fancy text generator if you want to try them.

Choosing a style for each part of your profile

  • Name line: bold cursive or bold sans. The name is short and already set in bold by Instagram, so a heavy style stays readable at that size.
  • Bio: light sans, italic or plain text. A whole bio in cursive is tiring to read on a phone; one styled line with the rest plain usually looks more polished.
  • Captions: bold serif or bold sans for a heading, then normal text. Gothic and bubble letters are fun for one word, not for a paragraph.
  • Highlights and section labels in your bio: typewriter or outline letters give a tidy, label-like look.
  • A quiet second line: tiny superscript or small caps letters from the small text generator work well under a bold name. They are not in the list above because a few letters have no small version.

Which Instagram fields accept fancy text

Instagram treats each field differently. The limits below are the ones Instagram publishes; the verdicts on styled letters follow from those rules. Cells marked Untested are ones we have not confirmed yet.

Will your followers see the same thing?

What a follower sees depends on the fonts on their own device, not on yours. The rows below group the styles on this page by the Unicode set their characters come from. Ticks for iPhone, Android and Windows rest on which sets those systems' built-in fonts cover; the Mac column is what we checked ourselves.

How the 150-character count works here

Instagram caps a bio at 150 characters but does not say how it counts letters from outside the basic Latin alphabet. The preview therefore gives two numbers. The first counts Unicode characters, so ๐“ is one character, just like A. The second counts UTF-16 code units, the way many programs measure text length, where ๐“ takes two. Many emoji, such as ๐Ÿ‘‡, also take two units, and a strikethrough letter is two characters by either count: the letter plus a line. If your bio fits under the first number but not the second, it may still save in full; reopen your profile after saving to make sure nothing was trimmed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I just pick a font inside Instagram?

Instagram draws your bio, captions and comments in its own interface font, and there is no setting to change it. Its font choices live in the text tool for Stories and Reels, and that text becomes part of the image or video. Unicode letters are the workaround: they are different characters, not a different font, so they keep their shape in the plain text fields.

Do Instagram fonts take up more of my 150 bio characters?

They can. Most styled letters are stored as two UTF-16 units instead of one, and Instagram does not publish which way it counts. The preview above shows both numbers. If the stricter count goes over 150, save the bio and reopen it to see whether anything was cut off.

Will a fancy font make my profile harder to find?

Possibly. People search for plain words, and a styled letter is a different character from the plain one, so a name written only in cursive may not match a search for that name. Keep your @username plain (Instagram requires it anyway) and consider leaving the words you want to be found for, such as your job or city, in plain text in your bio.

Why do my followers see boxes instead of my font?

Their phone has no font for those characters, so it draws an empty box or a question mark. It is most common on old Android phones. The cursive, bold, italic and gothic styles come from the math letters that current phones include, so they are the safest picks; check the device table above before using the others in your name.

Can I mix several fonts in one bio?

Yes. Each line is just text, so you can copy your name in one style, a tagline in another and leave your contact line plain. The bio preview lets you try one style for the name and one for the bio; for more variety, copy lines from the list one at a time and paste them together.

Do I need to install an app or a keyboard for Instagram fonts?

No. Everything happens on this page in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded. Copy the result, open Instagram, paste, and save. Font keyboard apps do the same character swap but ask for permission to read what you type.
