Fancy Text Generator

Discord Fonts

Copy a styled nickname, status or role that displays on Discord, or build Discord's own formatting below.

Tap any style to copy it. Accented letters (รฉ, รฑ, รผ) and numbers work too.

Heads-up: screen readers may skip these letters or read them one by one, and search engines may not match them. Keep important words, like your name or contact info, in plain text too.

Discord text formatting generator

Discord's own bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, spoiler, header, subtext and code. Pick the options, copy the code, and Discord turns it into formatting when you send the message.

What are Discord fonts?

Discord does not let you pick a typeface for your name or your messages; every reader's app uses its own. What people call Discord fonts are look-alike letters from Unicode, the character set every device shares: ๐›๐จ๐ฅ๐, ๐“ผ๐“ฌ๐“ป๐“ฒ๐“น๐“ฝ, ๐”ค๐”ฌ๐”ฑ๐”ฅ๐”ฆ๐” , ๐• ๐•ฆ๐•ฅ๐•๐•š๐•Ÿ๐•– and โ“‘โ“คโ“‘โ“‘โ“›โ“” letters that travel with the text. The list at the top of this page converts what you type into the 13 styles that are safe for Discord: characters from blocks that current phones and computers ship fonts for, and none of the symbols Discord treats as formatting, such as the backtick, the asterisk or the tilde.

Discord also has its own formatting, written with a few symbols around your words. The formatting generator builds that code for you. The two work together: send a header made of gothic letters, or a spoiler in bold cursive.

How to use the Discord font generator

  1. Type your nickname, status or message in the box. Until you do, every style shows โ€œDiscord Fontsโ€.
  2. Tap a style to copy it, then paste it into Discord: your display name, a server nickname, a role or a message.
  3. For formatting, write in the formatting generator, choose the style and line type, and copy the code. Discord applies it when you send the message.
  4. Check the result on your phone as well as your computer, especially in a name.

Where fancy text works on Discord

Discord has different rules for each name field. The table only states what Discord's own help pages say, with a link to each page (all read on 7 Oct 2026). Where the help pages say nothing about styled letters, we mark it Untested rather than guess, because we have not yet pasted into every field ourselves.

The display name is the one most people see, since Discord shows it in chats and member lists wherever you have no server nickname. That makes it the best home for a styled name, while the plain username stays easy for friends to type when they add you.

Discord formatting codes

These are the codes from Discord's Markdown Text 101 help page, which the generator above writes for you. Headers, subtext and quotes go at the start of a line, followed by a space.

What to type in a Discord message
FormattingType
Bold**text**
Italic*text*
Underline__text__
Strikethrough~~text~~
Spoiler||text||
Bold italic***text***
Big header# text
Header## text
Small header### text
Subtext-# text
Quote> text
Inline code`text`
Code block```text```

Discord's help page describes these codes for chat messages, and if you copy a message out of Discord the symbols come along as typed. Unicode letters are the other way round: they look the same everywhere, but search, bots and screen readers do not see them as ordinary words. For a crossed-out word, Discord's ~~text~~ is usually better than the line marks from the strikethrough text generator, which are meant for places without formatting. The same goes for weight and slant: use **bold** in a message, and the bold text generator or italic text generator for your display name or status.

Short is better in names, since display names stop at 32 characters, and a status reads best as a single phrase. For a styled first line in a status, a tiny tag from the small text generator works well; for flowing handwriting in a display name, see the cursive font generator. The full fancy text generator has more than 45 styles, including ones that are not on this page because they may not display or may clash with formatting in Discord. Zalgo letters are left out too, since their marks spill over the messages above and below; if you want them anyway, the glitch text generator lets you keep the intensity low.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the font that Discord uses?

Not for other people. Everyone's Discord app draws messages with its own typeface, and there is no way to send a font file with a message. You have two ways around it: send characters that already look styled (the font list at the top of this page), or use Discord's own formatting codes (the formatting generator) for bold, italic, headers and the rest.

Why won't my Discord username accept fancy letters?

Discord's help page on usernames limits them to lowercase a to z, the digits 0 to 9, underscores and periods. Styled letters are different Unicode characters, so the username field rejects them. Put the styled version in your display name instead, which allows special characters, or in a server nickname.

Is Unicode bold the same as typing **bold** in Discord?

No. **bold** is a Markdown code that Discord turns into formatting when it shows your message, so the words stay ordinary letters: they can be searched and screen readers read them normally. Unicode bold is a different set of characters, so it keeps its look in places Discord does not format, such as a display name, but search and bots treat it as different letters.

How do I hide a spoiler in Discord?

Wrap the words in two vertical bars on each side, like ||the ending||. Discord hides those words until a reader clicks or taps them. Discord's help page notes that spoiler bars inside a code block do not work, which is why the formatting generator switches the style buttons off when you pick code.

How do I make small text in Discord?

Start the line with a hyphen, a hash and a space (-# ) to get Discord's subtext, which shows that line in smaller text. It only works at the very start of a line. For tiny letters that also work in your status or name, use superscript characters from the small text generator.

Why do my friends see boxes instead of my Discord font?

Their phone or computer has no font that contains those characters. The styles on this page come from Unicode blocks that current phones and computers include, which is why gothic, cursive and bubble letters are here but rune-like, Asian-look and emoji-square letters are not. Older devices can still show boxes; bold sans and bold serif are the safest picks.

Will bots and commands understand fancy letters?

Usually not. A command or a word filter looks for the plain letters, and ๐ก๐ž๐ฅ๐ฉ in bold is a different set of characters from help. Type commands, mentions and anything a bot needs to read in plain text, and keep the styled letters for names and decoration.
